It's almost Setsubun and Starlight School is busy in preparation of the event. Ran has decided to enter but struggles while trying to decide on being her true self or offering something she doesn't necessarily like to please others.
Ichigo, Aoi, and Ran are being interviewed by an older woman who asks them if the girls of Starlight Academy also have Setsubun going on at their school. They confirm it and Ichigo mentions how Ran played the demon for them the other day, causing them to bicker for a moment until Aoi manages to change the subject.
Ichigo then goes on to mention how much she likes to eat ehomaki and the woman guesses if her love of food has to do with all of her energy. Then, the woman goes on to ask the girls if they like to cook after the Hoshimiya bento shop gets mentioned. Both Ichigo and Aoi confirm it, and Ran brings up that her grandmother taught her when she was little, and she taught her to only use good, healthy ingredients.
At school Ran is busy preparing cookies and meets up with Ichigo and Aoi. Aoi explains where the name comes from to them, then who Toshitokujin is. Ran then mentions the ehomaki eating rules, like eating it all in one go, or how you shouldn't speak while eating it.
Ichigo tries a cookie and seems to have a little difficulty with it, though she claims it to be nothing as Ran continues on to discuss the event where they hand out handmade treats to the fans. She then tries one of her cookies after taking a sniff, deeming it to be fishy. Aoi recalls how Ran only eats healthy, which Ran explains as "you are what you eat" and uses Ichigo's love of parfaits as an example. Much to Ichigo's confusion...
Later on, Orihime is telling the students of the upcoming audition to decide the ehomaki image girl. The audition involves everyone making their own ehomaki, which the judges will taste test. The top two winners will then take place in a fashion show before the final decision. As the assembly ends, Johnny gives his own words to help inspire everyone.
Outside, Ichigo expresses joy in getting to have ehomaki with everyone until Aoi reminds her that they need to be serious, then also recalls that Ichigo has work that day, as she does herself, too. The only one not working is Ran and when they promise to wish her luck and cheer her on, she instead tells them she wants their help with practice.
At the Hoshimiya bento shop, Ringo and Raichi are going to be helping out. Because it's a slow period, Ringo offers her entire kitchen to Ran for work. Raichi asks to take pictures for his Aikatsu Newspaper then and the girls agree to it. After Ichigo asks how ehomaki is made, Aoi brings up the fact there is no single sushi roll even called that. Any sushi roll that is eaten on Setsubun while facing the lucky direction is considered ehomaki. With that, Ran asks Ichigo to help her make the vinegar rice as Raichi begins to take his pictures.
Ran tends to the rice while Ichigo explains why you should dump out the water put in with it. You also want to make sure not to wash it out too much, then put it into the rice cooker for about an hour. Ichigo also mentions that rice for sushi is more difficult then normal, plain rice. Then, when you add the vinegar you should make sure not to stir the rice, but a slicing motion while using the fan to gently help gloss it. As they finish, Ran comments on how much Ichigo knows as a chef.
Then, Ran moves onto the seaweed portion of sushi making. Ichigo explains that sometimes seaweed has to be roasted, but not always because most of it bought in store is already pre-roasted. As Ran realizes the name makes sense, Aoi points out that Seaweed is roasted to usually bring out the flavor, and Ichigo mentions that there is no one true way to do anything, which is why cooking is so much fun to begin with. Aoi also brings up the mentioned rules earlier and adds that one of the typical rules for it is actually just using seven different ingredients to correspond with the Seven Lucky Gods. This makes Ichigo realize that this is just like picking out coords and Aoi suggests something flashy.
With that in mind, Ran decides to use Wakame stalks, Hikiji, and Wakame for on top. Plus some fish. Now that it is finished, Ran has Raichi try it. He does so and deems it to be really healthy, which he can taste. So Ran considers it to be a success.
Meanwhile at Dream Academy, Seira and Ki are watching Sora as she prepares her own ehomaki. They are both curious, because of how unique her ehomaki is. Ki tries a bite of it and claims she may have already won the Audition at this rate.
Come time for the taste test, Raichi has come to take pictures. He spots Otome with her waffles, Yurika with her fangirls who like the pancakes she made, and Sakura giving out flower shaped cookies. He also is able to find Ichigo, Aoi, and Ran. Everyone thinks the cookies fit her personality and enjoy their healthy atmosphere. However, Ran is aware everyone else seems to be getting a lot more business then her, as well as the curious expressions people keep making as they try her food. She thinks back to how Aoi suggested she tries to use flashy ingredients and wonders if maybe she messed up.
On their way back to the school, a frustrated Ran listens to how much everyone liked Ichigo and Aoi's snacks they made, and when they point out that people liked her cookies, Ran asks for them to coach her one final time. They agree to it but worry something happened. Ran explains that she thinks by making something flashier, she may be able to please more people.
So upon arrival she makes more sushi and has them try it. They claim it to be really good, and seem to enjoy it which makes her feel better. But they still do not understand why she seems to be a little frustrated...
Later that evening, when Ran is in her room she is at her desk. She puts down something and happens to notice a picture of her grandmother and herself when she was little.
The next day, the recording for Forest-Forest Girl, Mountain Girl, goes onto break. Ichigo is really hungry now that they finished, causing Aoi to ask if she comes to do work or just eat. Ichigo assures her that it was for work, but she enjoys bento the best outside under a clear sky. It's then they notice Ran has vanished!
Deeper into the forest, Ran had been so busy with her thoughts that she finally realized she has been separated from them. She calls out to them, but gets no response other then a bush nearby. She worries it may be a bear and prepares to fight, but she finds out it is only Sora, much to her relief. Sora is just as surprised to see Ran and asks her if she knows a way out of the forest.
Back on filming location, Ichigo and Aoi, plus the staff are still trying to find her.
Ran and Sora hide out in a cave nearby and build a little fire for the two of them. Sora reveals that she plans on entering the contest as well, and had been drawn to the forest for inspiration. But then got lost, which Ran is able to connect with since her thoughts made her do the same. All of the sudden, she is beginning to feel hungry and Sora gets up to leave, asking her to stay back for a little while.
Aoi and Ichigo continue trying to find Ran. Ichigo asks about the lucky direction for this year and runs off in it, once Aoi mentions "a bit right of east-northeast".
Sora is able to make an ehomaki using ingredients she found outside. Ran is surprised by this, and Sora reminds her of the ehomaki rules, to eat it in one go and not speak. Ran asks her if this will be the one she enters in the contest, then begins to eat it after Sora also says "there is no one correct way" to make ehomaki. The coord you put together should be the one you believe in, and the same can be said for ehomaki.
Ran then takes a bite and deems it to be really good, which makes Sora happy. When they hear Ichigo and Aoi outside of the cave, they come out and approach them. Ichigo is relieved to see Ran is safe, but they are surprised to find Sora and Palm there.
Soon the Next-Gen Ehomaki "Yeah! Hoo! Maki" image girl audition comes. Johnny is excited to see who wins, while Orihime points out that the standings will also determine the luck Starlight Academy will have this year. First comes the eating contest, where everyone shows how well they can eat the ehomaki. They all do fine, but after Otome speaks Yurika scolds her, but then Sakura points out she just spoke, causing the three of them to not make it to the next round, as well as Ki.
Next up is to use the ehomaki like a microphone and perform with it. It is then revealed that only Sora and Ran will continue to the next round, as well as two other random girls. Back in the waiting room, as Sora and Ki are speaking with Seira, Ran seems to be feeling down. Ichigo and Aoi approach, having finished their work and they ask Ran how she is doing. They express joy when she informs them that she's moved onto the third round, but now comes the cooking part of the audition. Before she leaves to do it, Ichigo encourages Ran to just be herself.
Ran works in silence while thinking back to what her grandmother used to tell her. When the judging comes up, the trio are quick to bring up how plain and uninspiring it looks, causing her to worry. But one of them recognizes the healthy items that have been put into it and he grows pretty excited to see how much consideration for health it has. With that they decide to try it and are each reminded of their own grandmother.
Soon the results are announced. Ran and Sora will be moving onto the final round. Everyone cheers for them while Sora congratulates her and comments on how happy she is to get to partake in the fashion show with her. So the girls get changed and appear on stage, where they sing and perform to "Kira・pata・shining".
Afterwards it is later revealed that both Sora and Ran were both chosen to be the image girls due to how well liked they were. At the Hoshimiya Bento Shop, Ichigo, Aoi, Raichi, and Ran are eating some of Ringo's own made ehomaki. Ran comments on how good it is, only for Ichigo to scold her for speaking, then Aoi scolds Ichigo, causing them to start laughing.
