Mizuki and A Soft-Shelled Turtle
A Sincere Call and Response
As Ichigo, Aoi and Ran ponder on how they can catch up to Mizuki, they meet a first year named Akane Mimori, who is an admirer of Aoi. With the girls wondering how to become more responsible upperclassmen, Orihime assigns them as teachers, in which they must come up with ways to teach the freshmen about being an idol.
The trio sit outside while discussing the recent passing of the Fresh Girls Cup and how they were all able to make it to the semi-finals. They feel as though they all have a far distance to go though when Naoto comes over to ask them why they're spacing out. They explain the situation and he mentions that there's some girls to see them.
As the girls walk down the hallway they mention how strange it feels to be second year students now. It still feels like it isn't even real. Just then, a strange girl watches them from the corner until Aoi notices her. She happens to notice a small bit of leaf stuck in her hair and attempts speaking to her so that she can tell her. But when Aoi is about to notice her, she hides again. So the mysterious girl tries taking it when she isn't looking. But Aoi notices her doing this and they confront the girl by asking her what she was trying to do.
The girl, Akane mentions a leaf had been stuck to Aoi's hair. With ease Ran removes it and Akane takes off after introducing herself to them. Before the girls can think much of the encounter, Johnny appears with news, but won't tell them until they get to the headmistress' office. Orihime informs the girls that they will become teachers for the underclassmen. She believes that it will be good experience for them, and it's up to the girls what they teach. Besides it isn't like they need to learn history or math. Once they leave, Orihime mentions how inspiring the three girls are, even if they can't surpass Mizuki. They have all matured and she believes this lesson will be especially helpful for Aoi since she's good at this sort of thing and it will help her also.
During lunch, Ichigo panics over the idea of her teaching. Ran goes on to mention how much they learned from Mizuki and Ema before Ichigo pictures herself as a teacher. It goes fine until she trips over her own heel, then hits her head on the desk...
She goes on to ask for advice, unaware that they're being watched. Later in the dorm room Ichigo expresses concern. Neither she or Ran have any ideas, so Aoi asks what she thinks she should teach. But Ran goes on to suggest they ask the first year students they would like to learn from them. First they ask Sakura, but she claims not to need anything specific like that because she's fine using them as examples as it is. Because of them she consistently improves.
They try to find someone who would embody the "first-year" type better and go to Akane. They apologize for bothering her and explain what they will be doing before Aoi asks if there is anything she and her friends would like to learn from them. Akane begins to grow excited just being taught by them, but she doesn't know anything about the world of idols yet. She'll be happy just learning anything.
Later in the dorm room, Aoi admits that even with that they don't know what to teach yet, since nobody gave them any specific answers. She collected a lot of idol information over the years but now that she's become one, she realized there is a difference between theory and practice. She feels as though she may be able to teach the girls about that, which inspires Aoi and Ran to also share their experiences with the new students.
Ichigo goes over the items she uses when attending auditions. When Aoi points out her rice scoop, Ichigo claims it's very important and it's like a lucky charm to her. Aoi goes on to ask Ran about her teaching and Ran mentions that she plans on telling them to ask whatever questions they want and go from there. They think this will work since she's so experienced, and Ichigo mentions how Ran is much nicer then she looks. When this offends Ran, Ichigo explains that this was because she was really hard to approach when they first met. But Ran claims Ichigo clung to her despite that.
Aoi meanwhile, decides she is going to speak about the work she's done on tv and what-not, as well as go over her experience and feelings using the life log book she's made for herself. Ichigo wants to see but Aoi wont let her.
And soon their first day comes. Ichigo claims to be much more nervous then she would normally get, out of fear if she messes up they will make fun of her. Inside of the room, all of the girls are eagerly awaiting for the trio to begin teaching them. Ran heads inside for her attempt first. All of the girls cheer for her and she explains that the girls can ask her anything they want. But this strategy ends up being difficult since there are too many...
After her turn ends, Ran seems to be a little worn out now. They ask her how it went but she doesn't say anything, going on to tell Ichigo it's her turn instead. With that Ichigo walks in with her rice scoop, leaving many girls confused. Ichigo manages to trip, but luckily she catches herself and everyone cheers for her instead of mocking. When she returns to Ran and Aoi later, she seems to be delighted, much to their surprise... it turns out she sang for the students, then ended her turn. Ichigo claims that they had asked her so nicely, so she couldn't just say no. Neither Ran or Aoi seemed surprised by this...
Now it is Aoi's turn. She comes in looking very serious but all of the girls find her glasses to be cute instead. Aoi begins to give everyone an uplifting speech, then goes onto how important appearance can be when it comes to auditions. Unknown to the trio, Orihime and Johnny happen to be watching from her office.
Once Aoi's turn ends, she reunites with Ichigo and Ran. She mentions that everyone had paid her attention and once she finished, many of the girls said they wished to become idols just like her. Even though they felt a bit down after Mizuki's performance the other day, now isn't the time for that. It's then Orihime and Johnny come by with special presents for the trio. They hand the girls some spring collection based coords and Orihime tells them to go and put on a great performance for the first year students. And so, the girls change and they sing and dance to "Idol Activity!".
After the concert, the girls feel much better now. They hear someone knock at the door and Akane comes in to comment on how well it was. She thanks them for teaching the girls so much before starting to cry. She explains that every day she would worry while thinking she wouldn't be cut out for being an idol. But once she heard their lessons and watched them perform, she has lost this idea and has become much more inspired.
She then leaves after calling Aoi her teacher, even if she doesn't teach her anymore. Touched by such gesture, Aoi points out that after today they will probably have a lot more students come by to learn from them, so they have to do their best from now on!
